Obituary for Lois Norma Eckert (Bauer)

Lois Norma Eckert (Bauer)
Lois Norma Eckert died in the comfort of her home in Warminster, early Tuesday morning with her husband Evan by her side. Evan or Eck was her childhood sweetheart and husband of 60 years. She leaves behind her five children and their significant others, Cindy (Tom) Sokolis, Gail (Randy) Smith, Jill (Brian) Wenstrup, Meg (Tom) Bowers, and Glen (Caroline) Eckert. She is also survived by her grandchildren, whom lovingly referred to her as “Meme”, Tara (Jon) Goldberg, Tommy (Lindsey) Sokolis, Christie (Ronnie) Covington, Jacquelyn (Bryan) Cotter, Gary (Tanya) Smith, Christopher Wenstrup, Kyle Smith, Michael Wenstrup, Eric Smith, Sarah Wenstrup, and Brandon Bowers. And her great-grandchildren Lukas Goldberg, Evan Covington, Lindsay Goldberg, Samantha Covington, Lily Goldberg, Mason Cotter, Henry Sokolis, Adelyn Sokolis, and Bryce Cotter.

She was born and raised in Philadelphia. Lois was a dedicated and enthusiastic baseball fan. She followed the Phillies whether they were winning or losing. Her passion for baseball stemmed back to her teen years when she was a score keeper for her father’s baseball team. Lois was a 1951 graduate of Frankford High School. She was an avid alumnus and assisted in planning many high school reunions. In 1960, Lois and Evan moved to Southampton, where they raised their family and were active members in the community. Lois taught Sunday school and piano lessons to neighborhood children, and a few of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Southampton Lady Lioness club. She enjoyed hosting meetings, spending time with her club, and dedicating time that would benefit local charities. She was an awesome Bowler, and was a Pike Lanes League member for many years. Lois played Pinochle often with her friends and in her later years began playing Bridge. Lois had many lifelong friends and embraced new, loving friends when she and Eck retired to Ann’s Choice.

Lois spent more than 60 summers in Surf City, New Jersey where she raised all of her children, her grandchildren, and some of her great grandchildren. She was always a warm and welcoming hostess and the larger the gathering the better. At times, she could have up to 25 people plus 5 dogs in her house. Hectic or chaotic for most people, but she would say, “The more the merrier!” Everyone knew to be home by 3 o’clock for cocktails and good eats on the deck. She loved cooking for the crowd and was happiest when they would all eat together. At the shore, Lois loved playing pool with her family and listening to the oldies. On the weekends Lois and her dear friend Jane, would go to yard sales and hunt for treasures. She loved to find old furniture and refinish, to add to the décor of her shore house. She taught all the children how to work as a team and to be grateful to have one another. A sign which stated “Love One Another” was proudly displayed in a prominent place, as a reminder for all.
Lois loved to travel with Eck on his business trips, when the opportunity arose. She visited many states, including one of her favorites, Hawaii. She loved the beauty of Hawaii from the volcano’s to the flowers. She enjoyed gardening and took special pride in her tomatoes. Lois worked at Burpee Seed Company for many years.

Lois loved music and played the piano. She recently played for her family on Mother’s Day, everyone enjoyed hearing her play. Lois was technology savvy and often shared her sense of humor through jokes via e-mail or Facebook. Lois and Eck enjoyed heading to Atlantic City to give their donation to the slot machines. And boy was she excited when Parx opened right around the corner, as Eck didn’t have to drive as far.

Lois will be missed be her family, as she was loved by all. She would stop what she was doing and help whenever needed. They were a huge part of her life and she of theirs. She was happiest when surrounded by family, especially during the Holidays when the tables were overflowing with family and laughter.
