Obituary for Renato Principato

Renato Principato, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2018, with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Ernesto & Gaetana Principato, and step-mother, Carolina Principato. Predeceased by his brothers Salvatore, Furio, and Enrico, he was the last of the four great Principato brothers. Renato is survived by his devoted wife Costantina of nearly 54 years, his three children Ernesto (wife, Sharon), Donato, and Chiara, and five grandchildren Jessica, Angel, Gabrielle, Christian and Matthew. He will be profoundly missed by his family, sisters and brothers in law, cousins, nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends.

Renato was born in the Calabria region of Italy in 1936. He was in the Italian army, stationed in Rome, and worked as a driver for the general of his division. He immigrated to the United States, became a citizen, and married his "honey" in 1964. Renato was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and worked for Septa as a heavy equipment operator for 30 years. Together, he and Costantina worked very hard and raised a loving family in Bucks County, PA. As in their homeland, the Principato family jarred tomato sauce every summer, hung soppressata, capicola, and provolone in the garage, hand-made pasta and bread, made home-made wine, and had many wonderful parties and family gatherings. Renato was a deeply loving father and provider for his family. He could fix anything that went wrong in the home and imparted this resourcefulness onto his children. He was a kind-hearted, honorable, humble man who made everyone feel special. His caring, sincere interest in people and charming personality made others feel at ease and become so very fond of him. His silly sense of humor, kind eyes and warm smile will never be forgotten.

We would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Kenneth Rothstein, our hero in Renato's health care, Tom Devlin with the Knights of Columbus, and Anna Monterosso and the team at Bayada Hospice Care.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Catholic Church, 1410 Almshouse Road, Jamison, PA, on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. with mass held at 10:30 a.m. Committal service will immediately follow at Forrest Hills/Shalom Memorial Park, 25 Byberry Road, Huntington Valley, PA.
