Obituary for Joseph J. McKernan Jr.

Joseph J.  McKernan Jr.
Joseph J. McKernan, Jr. passed away peacefully on Fri. February16, 2018. He was 52. Joe was born in Elkins Park to Maureen (Youell) and Joseph J. McKernan, Sr. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Anne Bridget (Kowalski); his sons, Joseph J. McKernan, III "Jack" and Liam Thomas; his parents, Maureen and Joseph McKernan; siblings, Anne Marie and Andrew McKernan; nieces and nephews, Dalton, Sarah Grace, Alexandra, Sarah Diane, Hannah and John; Aunt and Godmother, Kathleen Torano and Uncle and Godfather, James McKernan, Jr.

Joe recieved his BA in Communication Studies from Temple University and his MFA in Acting from The University of Illinois. A member of Actor's Equity Association he performed in various regional, off-Broadway and community productions across the country. Joe enjoyed performing and directing shows with his children and wife, and served as President of the Board of Directors of Newtown Arts Company. Joe was an active member of St. Andrew's Parish, where he coached CYO basketball and worked with the Parish Life Teen program. He was a CRNAA baseball coach, and was involved hte the Bucks County Playhouse's High School Theatre Festival, and served on the Bucks County Community College Tyler Tasting Committee.

Joe had a successful 18 year Real Estate Career, most recently with Coldwell Banker Hearthside. He was a 2015 and 2016 Platinum Club Award recipient.

Joe's family will receive relatives and friends on Fri. Feb. 23, 2018 from 6 to 8:00 PM at James J. McGhee Funeral Home, 690 Belmont Ave., Southampton, PA and again on Sat. Feb. 24, 2018 from 10 to 11:45 AM at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Rd., Newtown, PA 18940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Newtown Cemetery in Newtown. In lieu of flowers, Joe's family has requested donations in his name be made to Newtown Arts Company, (please write Joe McKernan Scholarship Fund in the memo), P.O.
