Obituary for Eleanor P. Needles (Finn)

Eleanor P. Needles (Finn)
Eleanor Patricia (Pat) Needles, nee Finn, a longtime resident of Churchville, passed away on Monday, August 1 at The Birches in Newtown. She was 90.

Pat was born in Philadelphia to Mary (McCarthy) and Patrick Finn, citizens of Ireland who emigrated from County Cork and County Mayo, respectively. Pat was very proud of her Irish heritage and she was also a devout Catholic.

After graduating from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School and Peirce Business College, Pat was an executive secretary to the Commanding Officer at the Naval Air Development Center in Warminster. It was there, in 1951, that she met the love of her life, a newly-hired aerospace research engineer from Maryland, Leonard Needles. They were married on September 12, 1953, moved to Churchville in 1956, and enjoyed a wonderful life together for more than 61 years until Len’s passing in March 2015.

Pat was a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker for whom the educational and athletic achievements of her three children were both her highest priority and greatest source of pride. Pat was also a history buff who greatly enjoyed planning family trips to historic American landmarks. In their retirement years, Pat and Len embarked on many extended road trips, eventually visiting all 48 states in the Continental United States.

Pat was preceded in death by her brothers, Martin Finn and Joseph Finn, and her sister Marie Flatley. She is survived by her sons Stephen (Maria), Marc (Marita), and Christopher (Maureen) Needles; grandchildren Zachary (Ashley), Craig, Matthew, Breanne, Maggie, Kelly and Michael Needles, and great granddaughter Ella Bay Needles. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 654 Hatboro Road in Richboro. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. with Rev. Joseph J. McLaughlin, Pastor of St. Vincent’s presiding. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to Pat’s favorite charity, Monastery of St. Clare, 1271 Langhorne-Newtown Road, Langhorne, PA 19047.
