Austin R. Morris
Austin R. Morris, April 23, 1928- February 15, 2021

On Monday, February 15, 2021, Austin Morris, loving husband, and father passed away at the age of 92. His mind was as sharp as ever, but his body started to fail him.

Austin was born on April 23, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA to Margaret and Edward Morris. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of 64 years and his seven children, Austin Jr., Gregory, Christopher (Lynn), Michele Woodrow (Timothy), Paul (Marigrace), Matthew (Hollis), and Margaret Peters (Charles). He is also survived by his fifteen adoring grandchildren, Lauren, Emily, Julia, Madeline, Robert, Anna, Marguerite, William, Laura, Grace, Hunter, Charlotte, Lucie, Catherine and Caroline, who knew him as Pop Pop and Grandpop. He is preceded in death by his brother Edward.

Austin enlisted in the Army at 17 years old and served on occupation duty in Korea at the conclusion of World War II. Upon his separation, he attended Gettysburg College on the GI Bill, graduating in the class of 1951. While at Gettysburg College, he was an active member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and he maintained these friendships until the end of his life. At graduation, he was commissioned as an infantry officer and served in the Korean War as part of the 7th Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was awarded numerous commendations including the Bronze Star with Valor.

After Korea, he moved to Philadelphia and joined the Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company in their training program. He and Margaret were married in 1956. He established the Austin R. Morris Associates, Inc. insurance agency in 1960 and thrived in the insurance business. He was elected three times as a commissioner of Lower Moreland Township, serving for 12 years. He was active in Troop 240 of the Boy Scouts of America and attended many camping weekends with his sons.
Austin was enormously proud of his family and loved to talk about their many blessings and successes. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Margaret in Huntingdon Valley, PA and Ocean City, NJ. The Morris family resided in Huntingdon Valley, PA for more than 45 years.

Austin was an independent thinker. He was well read and wise. He was fun and funny and could banter with the best of them. He loved people and enjoyed sharing stories with all. Austin was a fierce protector of the underdog. He will be missed by his family members and friends who were all touched by his being in their lives.

Relatives and friends are invited to Austin’s Life Celebration on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 10AM to 11AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 611 Knowles Avenue, Southampton, PA 18966. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Austin’s name may be sent to Gettysburg College.
