Obituary for Anil Deshmukh

Anil Deshmukh
Anil Deshmukh, 78, of Southampton, Pennsylvania passed away February 9, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Anil -- known as Baba to many -- was born in Pune, India on April 29, 1942 to Vithalrao and Susheela Deshmukh. He graduated from Shivaji Maratha High School where both of his parents were teachers. He earned a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering before teaching as an Associate Professor at University of Pune. He married Vidula Patil in 1969 before moving to the United States where he spent many wonderful years working at Honeywell and Specialty Minerals. Baba and Vidula raised two children in Southampton and, over time, sponsored his younger brothers Sanjiv and Sudhir and her younger brother Ajit to join them in the U.S. Importantly, and happily, he and his wife early on made many of the most amazing "Top of the Hill" lifelong friends that truly became his extended family and meant the world to him.

Baba was a devoted father and grandfather, and a loving “Anil Uncle” to his close friends’ children and his nieces and nephews -- his biggest fans. He was quick witted, patient, lovingly sarcastic with a great sense of humor -- a real softie with a heart full of love and care for all but especially for the younger generation and grandchildren.

He was a true engineer at heart - always thinking, fixing, inventing ways to make things work better. In a similar vein he was curious about the world and read widely and deeply in many areas. His career made him a world traveler, though he always enjoyed returning home to his family. He was also a talented artist and became an enthusiastic painter in his retirement. He was most passionate about music -- he loved nothing more than to share his favorite songs with everyone -- from 1950’s Indian love songs to his favorite pop radio hits -- while he sat at the piano and played along by ear.

Baba will be missed by many. His wife Vidula, who patiently loved and cared for him; his daughter Aru and her husband Rick; their children Shay (18) and Maya (14); his son Ajay and his wife Jennifer; and their daughter Divya (8 months). And also his friends, siblings and their children, who spent so much time in the presence of his warmth and support.

Baba, wherever you are, we hope that you are listening to your favorite music and thinking of us. We miss you.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in memory of Anil Deshmukh. Live Stream of services will be available at 11:20 AM by going to www.McGheeFuneralHome.com, clicking Anil's tribute page, then clicking Video Tribute.
