Obituary for Emily M. Lapinski (Haftek)

Emily M. Lapinski, 90, devoted wife of the late Henry J. Lapinski, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 16, 2021.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Antonette Gackowski Haftek.

Emily was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic church in Southampton, Pennsylvania before moving to Greenville, South Carolina. She sang in the choir, assisted with pastoral care, was a lector, Third Order Carmelite, and past president of the Legion of Mary. She was a very active volunteer in her community.

“Mommalee” was an amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin and friend. She was gifted with a fantastic singing voice. Her joys of life included the company of her grandchildren, cooking, baking, polka dancing, being an accomplished seamstress and avid gardener. Her Christian faith was her bulwark against the trials of this world. We will miss her smile, compassion, sense of humor, and unshakeable optimism.

While gone from our sight, her values and memory will live on through her three children, Thomas and his wife Cathy Sue, Joan and her husband Robert, and Edward and his wife Paige; eight adoring grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Samantha, Kathryn, Geoffrey,Jennifer, Rebecca, Shaun, Lauren, and Alex; and one great granddaughter, Charlie.

In addition to her parents and love of her life, Henry, her husband of 48 years, Emily was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Alex, Ted, Lola, Helen, and Stella.

Although no formal Receiving of Friends was held, friends paid their respects Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church on Fri. Jan. 22, 2021.
