Obituary for Rosemary D. Thompson (Dick)

Rosemary D. Thompson (Dick)
Rosemary D. Thompson (nee Dick), age 87, died peacefully on December 2, 2020 in Harleysville, Pennsylvania. Rosemary was born on March 14, 1933 in Philadelphia to her loving parents, Frank and Anna Dick. In 1942, Rosemary moved to her parents’ farm in Davisville, Pennsylvania. She and her siblings helped on the farm and in the family business, Dick’s Delicacies, which served delicious German specialties from 1937 to 1980 in the famous Philadelphia Reading Terminal Market. Rosemary happily served many customers alongside her parents, sisters, Frances, Heddy and brother, Frank.
Following high school graduation from Villa Joseph Marie, Rosemary worked as a secretary at the Naval Air Station in Johnsville, PA. Rosemary had top secret security clearance and took impeccable steno for senior military officers, including U.S. Astronaut, John Glenn. During this time, she met and fell in love with her beloved, Jack Thompson, to whom she was married for 64 years. Rosemary and Jack had four wonderful sons, Stephen Thompson of Beverly Wood, California, Christopher Thompson of Chalfont, Pennsylvania, Timothy Thompson of Highland, California and Frank Thompson of Kinnelon, New Jersey. Rosemary was an adoring and active mother who served “Schnick-Schnacks” to her boys and thousands of friends and soccer players over the years. Rosemary enjoyed socializing and loved parties with family and friends. She resided with her family in Southampton, Pennsylvania for 36 years and was extremely active in her parish, Our Lady of Good Counsel, where her sons attended school. She was a member of Catholic Marian Society and sang in the church choir for 8 years. She was extremely active in the Right to Life movement and supported young mothers and their newborns through various organizations. A sports enthusiast and game player, Rosemary was an avid tennis player and never lost her desire to have a catch with anyone willing to throw her a ball or play a game of Monopoly, Rummikub or Scrabble. She also loved the opera and had the pleasure of meeting her favorite singer, Luciano Pavarotti. Rosemary was a great storyteller and often reminded her family that “Laughter is the best medicine.” She set an amazing example of faith, love and laughter to all who knew her.

Rosemary mostly enjoyed her time with her husband and children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite pastime was watching her family socialize and frolic in the lake of their Pocono home in Towamensing Trails. All were welcome - the more, the merrier. Rosemary had a smile that warmed the hearts of many and had a fun-loving personality that will never be forgotten. Her smile and infectious laugh will live on in her large, loving family.

In addition to her husband, Jack, and sons, Rosemary is survived by her sisters, Frances DeVincent and Heddy Boess, her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Pamela Dick, sisters-in-law Marguerite Schufrieder and Jeanne Gaudette, daughters-in-law, Sue Thompson, Cindy Thompson, Robin Thompson, and Deirdre Thompson, grandchildren, Elaine, Erik, Alexis, Christy, Vanessa, Sean, Timothy Jr., Wesley, Kendall, Meghan, Katie, Jackie, Kelsey and Connor, great-grandchildren, Gracie, Brayden and Jackson, and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to Rosemary's Life Celebration on Wed. Dec. 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 611 Knowles Ave., Southampton, PA 18966 and again on Thurs. Dec. 10th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM. Covid guidelines are asked to be followed.
