Obituary for Charles W. "Chick" Wilkinson Jr.

Charles W. "Chick" Wilkinson Jr.
Charles W. Wilkinson, Jr, passed away on October 13, 2020. He was 85. Charles was born in Philadelphia to Frances (Ells) and Charles W. Wilkinson, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia (Thomas); sons, Charles, III (Erin), Steve (Lynn), Scott (Vanessa); grandchildren, Tara, Conor, Cole, Ty and Chase; and his brother, Richard.

Chick graduated Lincoln High School in 1953 receiving a scholarship to play football in college. Instead of attending college he worked multiple jobs to help support his family. In 1956 he started working for Bell Telephone. Chick met Pat at a Bell Telephone shrimp night at the Willow Grove Moose Lodge. They were married in February 1963. Chick worked various jobs at Bell Telephone, but spent the last part of his career specializing in Tier 2 support until retiring in 1991.

Chick spent most of his time with his children competitively coaching various sports and taking memorable camping vacations including 8 camping trips to Disney World. He ensured all of his children attended college and post graduation helped them remodel their first homes. From 1958-2006 Chick was a season ticket holder for the Philadelphia Eagles. He immensely enjoyed tailgating and only missed 2 home games in 48 years.

During early retirement Chick spent his time golfing and being a handyman. As the grandchildren arrived their Pop enthusiastically attended all of their events including: dance & piano recitals, soccer, band, baseball, football, lacrosse, marching band and go-kart racing. He was happiest when supporting or cheering his grandchildren on.

He also enjoyed day trips to the beach in Wildwood, happy hours anywhere, visiting breweries and getting free samples and playing in a golf league. Chick was very competitive and it was on display during volleyball and horseshoes at the annual July 4th picnic which was held for 50 years. He also enjoyed shuffleboard, bowling, darts, racquetball, handball and softball.

Chick lived a full and happy life surrounded by family and friends doing the things he loved to do. He will be remembered for his laughter, his smile and his easy going attitude.

The Wilkinson family will receive relatives and friends wearing Eagles attire (optional) on Monday, October 19, 2020 from 10 to 11:30 AM at James J.
