Obituary for Adam Joseph Sawoski

Adam Joseph Sawoski
Adam Joseph Sawoski, 80, died peacefully at his home in Southampton, PA on April 17, 2018. He was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1938 to Sophie (Nowotarska) and John Sawoski. Adam graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia and then went on to earn both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University, working by day and taking classes in the evenings. As a young man, he pursued many interests, from playing the guitar and harmonica, to building model airplanes, to dancing with a Polish traditional dance group. On August 27, 1966, he married Joan McFadden. They settled down in Southampton, PA, where they raised their daughter, Jill, and enjoyed traveling and sharing adventures with friends and family. In the last decade of his life, Adam became "Grandpop" and took great interest in his four grandchildren. Adam worked as a Mechanical Engineer throughout his career and was always an enthusiastic hobbyist. He loved to grow houseplants, photograph landscapes and towns, practice piloting aircraft on his computer, and travel throughout the world. He has hiked everywhere from Tamanend Park to Mt. Washington to Switzerland and Nepal. He could frequently be found at night observing the universe through one of his several telescopes. His curiosity about the world was boundless. Adam will be remembered most of all for his extraordinary character. He was unusually kind, gentle, patient, and thoughtful. He generously gave help to his many friends and family members with problems big and small, and walked with them through their troubles. Adam is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Joan; daughter, Jill Shashaty (Michael); grandchildren Anna, Gabriel, Dahlia, and Raphael; in-laws, Mary (Edward), Carol (Jim), Peggy, Catherine (Mark) and Joe (Joann); and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Edward in 2015.
Adam's family will receive relatives and friends on Wed. April 25, 2018 from 6 to 8:00 PM at James J. McGhee Funeral Home, 690 Belmont Ave., Southampton, PA and again on Thurs. April 26 from 10 to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 611 Knowles Ave., Southampton, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM.
