Obituary for David Norman Gutekunst Sr.

David Norman  Gutekunst Sr.
David Norman Gutekunst, Sr. (“Norm”), 93, a resident of Southampton Estates, died peacefully on July 15, 2017. Born in Philadelphia, Norm was son of the late David William and Louise (Allen) and beloved husband of the late Mary (Miles).

After graduating from Northeast High School, Norm was drafted by the Army in March 1943. He served in the Battle of the Bulge and remained in Europe until late 1945, working as a German language interpreter. After returning home from WW II, he graduated from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science with a degree in chemistry and married Mary in 1950.

A resident of Warminster for 60 years, Norm was a chemist for more than three decades, primarily working in the pharmaceutical industry for companies including Merck, American Home Products and Wyeth. He was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Robert Bellarmine Church parish and its seniors’ organization.

Norm’s favorite past times included traveling the United States and Europe and spending time with his extended family and friends.

Norm also was preceded in death by his brother, George. He is survived by four children, Mary Anne Robold, Nancy O’Connor (Gary), Joan Quinn (James) and David N. Gutekunst Jr. (Christine); nine grandchildren, Laura Robold, Suzanne Weber (Michael), Kerry Quinn, Christine O’Connor, Brian O’Connor, Kathleen Quinn, Kelly Quinn, Julie Gutekunst, David A. Gutekunst, and one great-grandchild, Casey Jones.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday, July 20, 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Warrington, PA, with 11 a.m. funeral mass following the viewing. Norm will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
