Obituary for Dolores T. Paradis

Dolores (“Dee”) Paradis passed away on Saturday Nov. 3, 2018, at the age of 99. Dee was born in Philadelphia to Mary (Cross) and Edward Hausmann. She is survived by her loving daughters: Denise Pliszka (Robert), Jacquelyn Paradis Seip, and Jeanine Paradis-Olenick (Michael); her 12 grandchildren: Heather Craft (Dale), Timothy Hartman (Beth), Robert Pliszka, Jr. (Jennifer), Ryan Pliszka, Katie Pliszka, Michel Paradis (Briana Short), Jonathan Bendas (Katie), Joseph Pliszka, Aimee Seip, Douglas Seip, Sierra Olenick, and Michael Olenick; and 11 great-grandchildren. Dee was preceded in death by her husband, H. Charles (“Chuck”) Paradis, her daughter Barbara Bendas, her parents and six older siblings: Charles, Loretta, Marie, Kathryn, Elizabeth, and Edward.

Dee was born in the Olney section of Philadelphia to proud immigrant parents, who were among the millions of Irish and Germans who left behind the harsh/turbulent conditions of their homelands for a better life in America. Dee was a member of Incarnation of Our Lord Parish until her family’s move to Northeast Philadelphia after high school.

Dee would eventually join the Navy as a Wave during World War II. It was during the “War” but prior to her enlistment that she would meet her husband of 69 years at a USO dance in Philadelphia. It is only fitting that they lie next to each other for eternity in separate graves both as honored veterans.

After the War, Dee and Chuck were married at the Church of the Resurrection and stayed in the Northeast until 1962, when they moved to Southampton, where they lived in the same home for 54 years.

Dee was an active member of Our Lady of Good Counsel (“OLGC”) Parish. She enjoyed her many years with the Marian Society whether as a member, committee chairwoman or officer. Dee was also very active in OLGC School as Classroom Mother for her daughters and as a member and officer of the Home and School Association.

In addition to church and school activities, Dee enjoyed her neighborhood card clubs; the Adoptive Mothers’ Club; playing tennis; summer vacations in Ocean City and Avalon, NJ; traveling and eventual participation in the St. Francis Senior Club.

Dee was both a homemaker and a career woman, who was an executive and legal secretary for many years.

Dee’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday Nov. 9, 2018, from 10:30 to 12:30 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 611 Knowles Ave., Southampton, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown. In lieu of flowers, the Paradis family has requested donations in Dolores’ name be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel SCHOOL Tuition Assistance Fund- 611 Knowles Ave. Southampton, PA 18966.
