Obituary for Elizabeth L. "Betty" Antes (Dydak)

Elizabeth (Betty) Lorraine Therese Antes (nee Dydak), a long-time resident of Huntingdon Valley, PA, died August 28, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on August 16, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Jozef and Helena Dydak, Polish immigrants who met and married in Philadelphia. She grew up in the Bridesburg section of the city as the sixth of seven children who are all now deceased, including: Joseph Dydak, Stefanie Bednarczyk, Mildred Kurek, Walter Dydak, Henry Dydak and Theodore Dydak.

Betty attended St. John Cantius Parish School and graduated from Little Flower High School in 1948. She chose Little Flower because of her deep admiration for St. Therese of Lisieux, the Little Flower of Jesus. Upon her graduation, she worked as a secretary to engineers for Schutte and Koerting.

She met the love of her life, Harry, at a dance at Chez Vous in Upper Darby. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 65 years Dr. Harry Antes; four children: Diane Antes, Mark Antes, Sharon Nyari and Carol Sponseller (David); five grandchildren: Torie Menniti (Vincent), Kristen Menzies (Aaron), Michael Nyari, Daniel Sponseller and Kathryn Sponseller; five great-grandchildren: Vincent Menniti, Christina Menniti, Giavanna Menniti, Rocco Menniti and Austin Menzies; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty embraced her Polish heritage and possessed a great love for and devotion to her Roman Catholic upbringing and faith. She was a member of The Sodality of Mary at St. John Cantius Parish in her younger years. Once she had a family, she made it her mission to carry on her cherished Polish customs and to religiously inspire her children through her thoughts, words and deeds. She loved to cook, bake, sew, knit and crochet, but she seemed to enjoy teaching her children and grandchildren these skills even more. Her heart was filled with joy when she was surrounded by them.

Betty prioritized family above all else and made enumerable sacrifices for those she loved. She was loved and admired by many in return.

Betty’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sat. Sept. 1, 2018 from 9 to 11:00 AM, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 611 Knowles Ave. Southampton, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Feasterville. The Antes family has requested donations in Betty’s name be made to Jefferson Health Hospice, 225 Newtown Rd., Warminster, PA 18974.
