Obituary for Ann Marie "Sunshine" McCloskey (Carroll)

On November 17, 2017, Ann (Carroll) McCloskey, went home to be with her husband, John, and son, Michael. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ann attended St. Hubert’s High School and graduated from the Misericordia School of Nursing. While working as a nurse at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, she met her future husband, John. Married in 1957, they spent time with their family in Alabama, Florida, and eventually returned to Philadelphia in 1964. Quickly, the family grew to 10 children. As a mother of such a large clan, it can be said she did a million pounds of laundry, bought 500,000 loaves of bread, and changed 50,000 diapers! Although Ann officially gave up her profession, she never stopped being a nurse while raising her children in Huntingdon Valley. In the mid 1980’s, she returned to nursing to help care for her parents at St. Joseph’s Manor. Well into her 70’s, Ann continued working as a nurse and educator.
Early on in her life, Ann was nicknamed, “Sunshine.” Those who had the fortunate experience of knowing her can fully understand why she was named so! Always happy, always giving, and always caring for others, she brought a bit of sunshine to all of the countless lives she touched.
She is survived by sons John (Erin), Mathew (Kathleen), James (Jennifer), Joseph (Suzanne), Thomas Henry (Nancy), Daniel (Arlene), Charles, daughters Karen, MaryAlice (Mimi), and Michael’s wife, Lisa and 20 grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, the late Charles and James Carroll.
Her family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the James J. McGhee Funeral Home, 690 Belmont Avenue, Southampton, PA 18966 and on Wednesday morning at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 605 W. Street Road, Warminster, PA 18974 from 9:00 AM until her Funeral Mass at10:00 AM. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Holy Redeemer Sisters at Redeemersisters.org.
