Condolences

Condolence From: Mike
Condolence: I was lucky to have the privilege and pleasure to meet John and Betty 64 years ago. I don’t remember much about the day but I will never forget the date, it was December 28. 1952. One of the best days of my life and I would say it was the best day of John and Betty’s life too! (I am sure his sons and daughters would disagree.) Ever since that day, John took me under his wing and helped guide me through life with love and support. Which at times I am sure was not easy, but he stayed with me till the end. Thanks.

There is a void in my life and in my heart now. There will be no more hugs and kisses from John. I will not be able to say Merry Christmas or Happy Birthday (May 10). I will miss all the holidays, and will not be able to tell him I love him face to face. “I love you,” three little words that people have a hard time saying. Think about those words, because life is to short not say them to the people we love.

I also would like to tell John’s sons and daughters and their families, “Love you guys and thanks for all the support and being there for my family.”

John you will be missed. I am proud to be your son. I am proud to call you Dad.

Thank you, love you and please keep guiding me through life.

Your second and favorite son,

Michael Patrick

Condolence: Uncle Jack was my sole inspiration to join the Philadelphia police. He was one of the first people I called when I got accepted. He invited me to dinner that week. I don't have to wonder if he was proud of me, I know that he was. He was/is a legend in the department. Ever time an old timer found out I was related they chewed my ear off with numerous JC stories. He cried with me in my kitchen the day my dad died suddenly and told me how much he'd miss him and what great talks they had. It's one of the few memories I have of that horrible day and it brought me great comfort. So I'll share that same thought to the Curry family as I sit here writing this in tears. I will miss that man. We had such great talks together.
I'll miss his LEHB calls when he would always make my wife laugh. I'll miss how he spoke to my kids with the typical John Curry serious comedy making them giggle every time. I'll miss running out before a party to buy whatever whiskey was "in season" so I would have it for him. He was one of the very few family members to call me when it became known how sick l am. He called me when I briefly returned to work and told me to go out on my terms and not the job's. So I take it as a sign that he left us the same month that I finally went out on my terms, retiring on a disability pension from the only job we both loved. I followed your advice and never brought shame to the two things pinned to my chest; my name and my badge that represented our department. He was a cop's cop. That's the highest compliment one officer can give to another. I'm sure dad wad anxiously waiting to greet you at the gate so you two can continue to have your great talks. I love you Uncle Jack. I'll miss you. I thank you for your inspiration to be the best, toughest cop I could be. My dad couldn't be at my graduation from the academy but you and Aunt Betty were there with my family. Hug my dad for me and continue to watch over me. Hugs, prayers, and condolences to those Uncle Jack left behind.
