Obituary for John G. Finley MD

John G.  Finley MD
John G. Finley, M.D., of Shepherd’s Crossing in Warminster, formerly of Huntingdon Valley, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 25, 2015, with his loving family by his side. He was 89. John was the son of the late Ida & James Leo Finley. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Erna Maria nee Schreiner. Also survived by children Maureen Small (Rick), Joseph (Susan), Janeen Sacks (Roger), John (Paula), Michael (Pamela) & Colleen Finley, grandchildren, Daniel, Stephen, Theresa, Kimberly, Laura, Amanda, & John Michael, & 4 great grandchildren.

John graduated from St. Joseph’s College in 1946 and received his Medical Degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1949. He interned at Nazareth Hospital 1949-1950 and had Radiology residencies at both Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia and Cooper Hospital in Camden.
John served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954, as a 1st Liuetenant in the Medical Corp and as the Chief of Radiology in bases in Trieste, Italy and Bad Kreuznach, Germany.
John began his career in Radiology as an Assistant Radiologist at Cooper Hospital, followed by positions in the Radiology Departments of St. Mary Hospital in Philadelphia, Mercer Hospital in Trenton, Garden State Community Hospital in Marlton, South Amboy Memorial Hospital in South Amboy and Saint Mary Hospital in Langhorne.
In a career spanning more than 48 years, John’s vast experience and never ending quest for knowledge covered Radiology, Diagnostic Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine and he remained on the Emeritus Staff of St. Mary Medical Center after his retirement in 1997.
John’s membership in Professional Societies includes The American College of Radiology, The American Medical Association, The Pennsylvania State Medical Society, the Bucks County Medical Society and the Radiology Society of North America.
John's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 29th, from 6 to 8 p.m., and again on Thursday, July 30th, from 9 to 10 a.m., at the James J. McGhee Funeral Home, 690 Belmont Ave., Southampton, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 611 Knowles Ave., Southampton, PA. John will be laid to rest at St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont, PA.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions in memory of John G. Finley, M.D., may be sent to St. Mary's Medical Center Foundation, One Summit Square, Suite 300, 1717 Langhorne Newton Rd, Langhorne, PA 19047.
